Length × width × depth (m) × density = tonnes. Pick the material in the calculator and it uses the right figure.
Example: a 10m × 6m yard at 200mm of recycled Type 1 is 12m³. At about 1.9 t/m³ that’s roughly 23 tonnes — one full 20-tonne tipper plus a bit, or a 30-tonne artic if you can take one.
Recycled aggregate is crushed from concrete, brick, tile and similar hard material. It does the job underneath, but it isn’t uniform: colour, grading and the brick-to-concrete mix vary from load to load. If a specification asks for primary stone, buy MOT Type 1. If you want the cheapest sound sub-base, this is it.
